"Defiant" Or "a scale of Reality"

The role playing game "traveller" in 1979 pitched a test of how solid a setting is and it's
this... "how small a group of players can steal the most powerful warship in the setting?"
the smaller the number the less real it is. Well it takes one will Oh it not even the super cool Will but 2nd rate knock off tom riker at his most cheese-wanker and two goons.

I would have loved it had Sisko told Riker how thankful he is that Riker stopped the Borg! given how things happened.

Having Frakes cross over to DS9 to play superdick Tom Riker playing Will Riker is, of course, fun, but what makes this episode work in the long run is its compellingly intricate plot and another pairing up of Sisko and Dukat.

Again, the enigmatic Obsidian Order comes into play, this time in the form of Korinas who has
the closest thing to an evil grin that DS9 has yet dare use, and is chillingly effective... at
being super mean to Dukat...

"KORINAS: Commander Sisko, you should be commended. I only wish we had someone with such keen tactical instincts who could have prevented this invasion of our territory."

As the search draws nearer to the Orious System, she becomes uneasy, quickly stating that no
ship may enter the Orious System or the Obsidian Order will destroy it including any ship of
the Central Command.

Obsidian Order the guys likely to frag there own side with Super upgraded ships that don't
officaly exist Having seen his style in more pure form in BSG, Ron Moore's storytelling approach on Trek becomes more evident in retrospect. He clearly preferred to dispense with TECH as hastily as possible, the better to get at juicy scenes like Kira explaining how terrorists don't get to
be heroes.

Also Dukat has the stand out moment about his son's birthday and how all he will know of the federation is hate for damaging his childhood. double irony as to the damage Dukat has personaly done to bajoran childhoods.

The only thing stopping me from giving this a metaphorical 5 stars is the fact we didn't get
to see the Defiant actually blow anything up.

Pity this never followed up on whatever happened to this Riker On screen.

so A.M.O. A question... is he still hot after he rips off the sideburns?

"Fascination" Or lack of divserty is a problem for sexytime randomness Or Love Troi No.9

Quite simply the most ludicrous episode of Deep Space Nine ever created, this one begins in the realm of plausibility then turns ridiculous by the end of the second act—only to be one- upped by over-the-top-ness with each succeeding scene.

as we go from crazy tight politics to farce in the space of a week. or 5 mins if like me, you took a toilet break between episodes.

Where did this script come from, and what was its intention? It appears to have been conceived as a joke. Apart from the aforementioned subplots, there's not a moment in this episode that can be believed. Here lies a plot where Jake asks Kira out, Vedek Bareil starts chasing Dax around the station, Dax comes on to Sisko, and Kira and Bashir fall into each others arms. It
could've been interesting. But the plot wastes the premise on cornball jokes instead of using the characters' personalities to explore these strange, impulsive crushes in halfway intelligent ways.

Lets also point out an issue given the divsery of the caset and men to women ratio this fails on a even deeper level of issue as we have. 4 men 2 women infected there is one nice moment at the end where Bashir takes Ben's advice about not visiting Kira while they are both infected and hot for each other. a surprising moment we would never have had even last year. so the story is not without some virtues.
What bothers me in this episode even more than the ham-handed lunacy, is the B-story involving Miles and Keiko. Their emotions run the gamut, yet neither is affected by Lwaxana's virus. Thus, the grand farce is undermined by the gravity of the O'Brien's marriage.I automatically chalked up Keiko's bizarre and sudden mood swings to whatever mystery element was at work on
DS9 during the festival. When it turns out that Miles and Keiko--aside from suffering from headaches--are in fact acting "normal," It make you realise just how much of a shit show that marriage is.

It's also overlooked the fact that Miles had encouraged Keiko to take the job on Bajor and that he promised that he would visit. So why hasn't he seen her for two months? And why doesn't he know anything about what's going on in her life on Bajor? Don't they talk while she's away? And seriously, a four year old kid who hasn't seen her dad for two months isn't going to immediately warm up to him, or she's going to be totally clingy. She's not going to go quietly to her room, again, to play with her stuffed animal.

Now to recover from this, I am going to lock myself away and play with stuffed animals.

This has been going round in my head for days now, only the chorus has become
"God damn them all, I was told,
we'd sail through space for Cardassian gold.
We'd fire no guns, shed no tears,
Now I'm a broken man on a Starfleet pier, the last of Riker's Privateers"

Detapa Council, Central Command and the Obsidian Order....
I don't think it heads into Section 31 territory by saying that we do sort of learn more about the Detapa Council later on, and its relation with the Central Command and Obsidian Order.
The impression I got was that the ruling military elite of the Central Command had to admit that they couldn't control the Obsidian Order and so they made an "agreement", and the civilian Detapa Council were created to be the deciding vote, and to keep the other two in line with Cardassia's interests rather than trying to tear each others throats out. Although in reality they had no power - Central Command owned the military might and the Obsidian Order had all the secrets. And I won't go any further because the would probably would entail a visit from Section 31 and/or the Obsidian Order....
Although that is just from what I remembered from before, so if I'm wrong, then I'm happy to be corrected.

Excellent Lyrics. Although purely for arrangement purposes I do prefer Alestorm's Version of That song.
