Do it! I was completely terrified of podcasting, and required some serious arm-twisting, but it's so much fun and a brilliant experience.

Do you have any experience using sound recording/editing software? It not, we have loads of people who can give you some tips on the basics. When I started, I'd never used any, and learning the basic skills, and then expanding them to do more involved work has been fantastic.

Have you a co-host in mind (from your post it sounds like you would like one) or have you started putting feelers out? Finding someone as enthused as you is essential, and it'll also be useful (though not essential) if they're up for sharing the editing duties. It can be a real grind when you've got a thousand and one real life things going on and you know you've got a day's worth of editing to do on top of it all!

But basically, yeah, podcasting is a brilliant hobby. I wish you the best of luck :D

Hi Gillian .. Thankyou for the reply
Yes i do have some experience in audio - I'm a musician, mainly a bass guitarist,
and i've been transmitting around the world on Ham Radio for nearly 30 years, 'round
table chats on Skype with friends, but i'm just thinking a easy going low budget podcast
with a good relaxed feel, without getting too embroiled in production,
prob a test podcast at first, just informal of course, but none of them seem much interested in podcasting, let alone Survivors.. although i did leave an occasional DVD hanging 'round for them to 'discover'

No Co-host in mind yet really, just thought i'd guage any reaction on here first,
this is just my first feeler, if i get no takers, or it doesn't work out, no worries,
but as you say life can get a little hectic or unpredictable, and things will pop up
and delay things, but i'm so easy going, anyone reading feel free to drop me a line here..

Well, i'll keep on keeping on, and hope someone as keen on Survivors as I am pops up,
ya never know eh :)
nice to hear from You Gillian, and Thankyou for the Encouragement !

Hi Mark,

We have a lot of regular podcasters here and so part of the reason that you may not get a response is not through lack of enthusiasm for the project but simply because they commit a lot of time to other shows already. I for one do two regular(ish) podcasts plus guest spots on others so that doesn't leave me much tie to take on a new show. There are certainly other outlets where you may find a co-host. Survivors may have fan forums of its own that you could try. If you do get to the recording stage lets us know as we can offer pointers on things like editing and hosting as we have lots of experienced podcasters here who have gone through pretty much every bump in the road you could imagine.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for writing, Yes I was bought here by the Shake n Blake podcast,
so i thought it would make sense to start out from here, as Blakes 7, Dr Who and
Survivors all share some similar Telly DNA :)

I didn't really expect a reply at all to be fair Dave, so to hear from Yourself and Gillian is about 200% more replies than i actually thought i'd get.

I know how time consuming recordings can be, Of course, never created a podcast, so I'm sure I would flounder easily, although before PCs i have sat for days with an old Tascam 4 track trying to get my latest work of art squeezed onto cassette. God, i feed old now.

Embarrasingly you know, but i never *actually* considered asking in the various Survivors Dave, i dont know why, but i haven't really been on any Survivors forums since the mid 90s, where, it has to be said, traffic was a bit lower compared to now, so i shall pull my finger out and re introduce myself.

Thanks Dave, i more than likely Will be scrounging for tips & tricks, and help here & there
if indeed there is anyone who enjoys the series as much as I do. hmmm...

Good luck Mark!

Give some thought to the format you want too. Do you just want to celebrate the show or do a rewatch like Shake and Blake. Would you want another fan or someone who has never seen the show before? Would it cover the remake as well?

Re: I'm hoping to start a 'Survivors' podcast 5 years 2 weeks ago #10789

Hi Martin ..

Yes, I've been thinking a great deal about what format it will take, but I like Dave and Ian's Shake n Blake show,
and something similar would be great. I'd greatly prefer another Survivors fan, because i feel i may come across
as sounding like an evangelist for the show, and like i'm selling it to the other host, so someone who is conversant
with the seres, plot and characters as a whole, so we can analyse some of the very real questions the show raises.

Unfortunately I have have a very poor response to my ' co host wanted ' type messages on various Survivors sites,
and I'm not much of a fan of one-man podcasts, i could probably pull it off Martin, for a few episodes, but I'm not that
sure i could have a conversation with myself, and keep it interesting :) But I am open to all folks who fancy a go, and i'm interested in anyone elses input as much as mine, if not more !

But up to press, no one has really seriously replied.. so it may be a one man show. which would be a shame,
because there are quite a few Survivors fans out there, as nuts about the show (or more so than me) with more
knowledge than i have, and i want to try to give a as in-depth look at the show as possible, maybe a once monthly show,
an episode at the time.

At least I can take my time doing some audio recordings and tests and stuff -

Thanks Martin,
-Mark-

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the forum. My apologies for not being amongst the first to welcome you, although I see Gillian and Dave have made you at home!

Don't be put off of the idea of a one-man podcast. Certainly it can be fun to have a co-host to bounce conversation off - and Shake and Blake is a particularly good role model! - but look no further than Hypnobobs for a fine example of a one-man show that stays interesting. If you have passion for the subject and you can present it in an engaging way there's no reason you couldn't produce a cracking show. Why not cut a pilot and see how it sounds? I'd be more than happy to offer feedback if you'd like to try it out on a completely virgin pair of ears.

As for attracting a co-host, you may find that by simply producing a couple of episodes and putting them out there you will bring a prospective co-host to your doorstep. My first episode of One More Go - itself a spin-off from The Eclectic Podcast - was completely solo, owing to the two pele who had offered to work with me pulling out. I went ahead anyway and received and email from Billy, who became my co-host from episode two onwards. Lightening in a bottle maybe, but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen for you.

As the others have said, if you need any other tips then don't hesitate to post again. Always here to help!

I hope you make it happen. I was recently wondering why there doesn't seem to be one out there anywhere...

Here is a thought.... Your podcast could be similar to or within the genre of the show itself, a bit like the chronicles of time podcast... You could make up a story in which there are very few people who know the show, and you are trying to make contact with other "survivors (fans)" to piece back together the whole story, for posteristy. Perhaps it could be because you anticipate a post apocalyptic world and want to know how society would get on.

Best of luck!
